Coach Harris is in his second straight year with the Topsail program and third year overall. He is a native of Wilmington, NC where he played at E.A. Laney High School, Wilmington Post 10, and UNC Wilmington. During his Senior season at Laney High School (1997), he led the team in both base hits and stolen bases and received 1st Team All Mideastern Conference honors and the team Golden Glove Award. Prior to his Senior season, under the instruction of Coach Trent Mongero, he transitioned from the middle infield to catcher. In the summer of 1997 for Wilmington Post 10 he led the team in stolen bases, was awarded All-Area II honors and the Jack Johnson Hustler Award leading Post 10 to the Area II title. In the summer of 1998, he again led the team in stolen bases as Post 10 reached the final four of the state playoffs. Coach Harris played one season at UNC Wilmington under legendary Coach Mark Scalf.

Coach Harris got his start in coaching as the Head Junior Varsity coach at Topsail High School in 2003 under Coach Bill White. From 2004-2005, he was the assistant coach at Heidi Trask High School. During that time, Trask made their first playoff appearance in school history. After a career change and eight years from coaching, Coach Harris returned to teaching and coaching at Kenwood High School in Essex, MD, where he was an assistant coach for two years and the head coach for the final three. In 2013, Kenwood had a final record of 3-14. By 2016, Coach Harris' second year as head coach, the Bluebirds set a school record in wins (16), placed two players on 1st Team All-County, and had the first County Player-of-the-Year in Kenwood history. In both 2016 and 2017 Kenwood made it to the 2nd Round of the State tournament, where they lost both years to the eventual state champions. Now in his second season with the Pirates, Coach Harris is the infield and catcher coach.
