The THS Men's and Women's Cross Country teams placed first in the opening meet of the 2020 season on North Brunswick's home course at Northwest Park on Thursday 11/19. Both teams defeated North, South, and West Brunswick with Jimmy Campbell placing first in the men's race and Kaitlyn and Makayla Obremski taking first and second in the women's. Robert Tellez, Caiden Jenkins, Ben Krieger, Shane Johnson, Skylar Libretto, Lauren Pagans, Helen Rooks, and Lexie Dawson all had top 10 finishes. The Topsail women's team took advantage of the nice weather and flat course to post the fastest team average for a season opener in school history while the men had the fastest opening team average since 2015. Helen Rooks set a personal record of 22:37 and Kaitlyn Obremski set a course record with her 17:44. Youth was the story of the day as Robert Tellez and Ben Krieger posted the second and fourth fastest opening times by freshmen in school history. Freshman, Lexie Dawson posted a varsity letter qualifying time of 22:50 in her first meet. The JV squad will compete next on Saturday 11/21 at North Brunswick as well and both squads will be hosted by Laney at Olsen Park on Wednesday 11/25.
